Tastes That Haven’t Changed is a memoir based on my family with a hope to promote Hong Kong local food culture, the importance of communication in the family relationships and the tradition of commemorating ancestors. Understanding the recipes of Boat congee and No. One Scholar Congee, how neurons respond to the tastes and how tastes transmit memories. Always think in others’ perspective and try to understand the reason behind her words.For instance, the mother rekindled their relationship due to the evocative taste of family warmth in the boat congee.

Yan's mother
Family-oriented. She intended to follow the tradition of tomb-sweeping with filial respect to her ancestor. She is very careful in money matters that she has strict controls and calculation on budget.
Yan
Curious and a bit picky about nostalgic Hong Kong food. She loves food. She sometimes gets mad at her mother owing to dissension between each other.
